Our Philosophy and Breeding Program

Over the past 35 years of breeding Labrador Retrievers, we have learned a lot. We have become more knowledgeable and educated on the breeding process and Labradors in general. We have learned much about the history and genetics of the breed and we take great pride in striving to improve our bloodlines including maintaining a standard to preserve the character of each of our Labs, as well as health and temperament. Here at WVSML we provide a high quality of care to our dogs. We provide quality food, proper shelter, exercise, and socialization as well as top veterinary care.

We love our dogs, and they love us back. We have seen the most beautiful litters of puppies and have met some of the best families that you could ever imagine, but we have also seen the sad side of breeding which breaks your heart. WVSML is NOT a puppy mill and we do not over breed our girls. We just let mother nature takes its course. Typically, we have 2-3 litters per year, for this reason we have a wait/contact list with those who want contacted when we know we are expecting. Again, we have been breeding Labs for about 30 years. We do this because we just love labs, and we love the look of joy and happiness on the faces of our puppy families when they pick out their puppy. However, there are some breeders out there that do not feel the sense of pride and responsibility to the breed or the potential buyer as we do. So, beware of that type of breeder, those who overbreed their dogs, puppy mills and breeders that you just get that gut feeling about and all they see are dollar signs. On the other side, there are many responsible breeders who are as moral and ethical regarding their breeding program as we are. But there are more and more breeders that are only looking at the dollar signs and could care less about the health and well-being of their breeding dogs and puppies. We are a small, family-owned kennel and currently have two breeding females and one breeding male. We insure all our dogs are well fed with the best food. They have kennels where they can move from their outdoor run area to their indoor kennel area. We also have a large heat and air-conditioned whelping room with security cameras that allow us to always keep an eye on our expectant mommas and our puppies. Our pets are run and exercised every day, and we have a large pond and diving dock which our Labs enjoy immensely. Our Labs are kept up to date on vaccinations and are seen by a veterinarian if we suspect and medical issues whatsoever. And above all, we give hugs and love to our babies every day. Our breeding dogs have all had DNA and Genetic testing and clearances through EMBARK, this way we know there will be no genetic defects passed on to our puppies.
